Art from junk mail

What do you do with all the bills, bank statements, brochures and junk inserts you get in the mail? Personally, I hate Hate HATE throwing out all those paper-- glossy and regular alike-- all the time. Especially when I think about how many trees were cut down to produce those papers. So I started collecting them (envelopes included) and decided I could draw on them. The texts, lines and various colors make for an interesting texture and background to the strong bold lines, plus, I get to reduce paper wastage at home. Here's my first try:

I think I'll start posting junk mail art regularly starting today...

The Yellow Leaf

I was looking through some old files today and I found this:
yellow leaf unfinished
I was doing this a few months ago; a mixture of textured papers, acrylic and charcoal pencil. The illustration is my personal interpretation of a short poem for a competition, but I couldn't make the deadline, so I just stopped working on her.

I've never gotten around to finishing the piece because I keep forgetting about her...
One of these days, I will get back to her. I promise.

More rain...

It has been raining quite a bit in the past few days...
But today it really poured!
After a while though, the sun finally came out again and shone as if it never even left. The end :D

After the Rain

It's been raining a lot lately, and though it makes the day a lot cooler-- which I like- I think it's time for the sun to come out. So today, I'm thankful it did.

Le Grand Entrée

What does a tired ballerina do?
Sit down and grab a bite, of course!
